lots of things...

lots of thoughts on my mind:

1) Three people I know are in physical trouble and I wish them all the best in pulling through these stresssful times. My thoughts are with you all and well wishes.

2) I ate at an incredible restaurant last night named "Farm" and had
the best local food, including smoked salmon ravioli and drank awesome wine from local vineyards. check my review here.

3) we got flexcar today and are leaving for hood river as soon as mel is dressed and ready. hood river is the sailboarding capital of the world, on the columbia river gorge.

4) my cousin sammy requested a shout out, so what's the drilly? she's bout to move to london end of the summer for grad school. say whatup to damon albarn and graham coxon and the kooks for me when you're kickin it in camdentown later this year. save me a curry and a bitter and i'll be out soon to chill with you blokes.

please send us cheesesteaks and softpretzels,

beer festival & V for Vendetta

Saw V for Vendetta yesterday w/ Natalie Portman. AWESOME flick, highly recommended. futuristic UK on lockdown/pretty much a totalitarianistic state, a crazy terrorist wants to take it back for the people by using force/bombs, etc. Natalie Portman gets involved and to not ruin, go see it, but very dope flick and again, highly recommended.

went to a beer and wine festival during the day on saturday and got a nice daytime buzz on while tasting TONS of local breweries and also beer from afar, most that i've never heard of and a bunch i have but never tried... pelican, roots, salmon creek, big horn, jack russel, and more listed here

books & music

the last couple of books i've read:

author: Tom Robbins
  • Still Life with Woodpecker - was just ok througout but cool ending, i thought... this book has personal interest because some putz gave it to melenie when we first started dating with quotes on love highlighted in the book. tom robbins just has total bananas adjectives that make you crack up in run on sentences. love that aspect. this book is about pyramids, love, and seeing the animate in inanimate objects.
  • Half Asleep in Frog Pajamas - was pretty good, better than still life, i thought. about the stock market and aliens giving stellar information to the Dogon in africa, and timbuktu... very eccentric character in the book, similar to the woodpecker in still life... maybe i just related better because i sell to people in the financial industry right now... a faster story too...
author: Haruki Murakami
  • A Wild Sheep Chase - good read by haruki. kafka on the shore was the best one thus far. weird, twisted shit about war, japanese food, transcending reality into your subconscious and wells (as in, with water). oh and turning into ghosts to help your friends out
band: The Kooks
  • their new album "inside in inside out" is dope. coldplayish britrock of the moment.

thoughts of the week

  • been watching the travel channel a lot lately. anthony bourdain is the man. if you haven't seen his show, NO RESERVATIONS, you are missing out bigtime.. his show on peru tonight was all that... i'm so down to eat ceviche, gunea pig and yucca beer... machu picchu looks amazing...
  • speaking of machu picchu, the movie for celestine prophecy was horrible. mel is gonna make a post on here about how bad it is...she's gonna be my new official movie reviewer.
  • jeanie took me to a dope nursery where i bought a blueberry bush, some lemon thyme and other goodies for mygarden...
  • i want a burnese mountain dog.
  • wed. night is passover....i'll be posting my moms blazing recipe for brisket sometime this week in memory of that, and maybe my grandpop's recipe for the best matzah ball soup ever..
  • you know how some people rock the jesus fish on the back of their car? well i saw one the other day that had the fish sign, but it said "gefilte" in the middle of it...it was all that!

pics from the week

here's some pics from the past week of hiking, eating out, cooking, touristing, etc., with mel's friend kristy visiting. the homecooked meal is a thai concotion mel and i made w/ thai fried rice, som tum (spicy papaya salad), thai bbq chicken legs, chicken and broccoli w/ pineapple, and spring rolls. the food mel and kristi is eating is ethiopian at Quen of Sheeba here in portland. awesome food you eat w/ your hands using a thin, pancake like bread called injeera to scoop up the spicy stews, curries, veggies, etc. really good beer too, with a slightly nutty flavor. the falls are wakeena falls, right near multnomah..we went on a 3 hour hike. more pics to come.
